Between 1 and 2 December 2022, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Mr. Christopher Cutajar, visited the capital city of Cyprus, Nicosia, to hold political consultations with his Cypriot Counterpart, Ambassador Kornelios Korneliou. Discussions were held on bilateral issues and on ways to enhance the already positive relations between the two countries.
Throughout the meeting, EU related issues and other regional matters with a focus on the Mediterranean, were also discussed. As Malta and Cyprus share similar characteristics and common challenges, ways to continue cooperation were explored. Prior to the meeting, the Permanent Secretary also held a brief exchange of views with the Cypriot Foreign Minister, H.E. Ioannis Kasoulides.
Mr. Cutajar also met with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Marios Panayides. During this meeting, ways to increase trade between the two countries and the energy situation in Europe were on the agenda.
