Another important milestone in the implementation of the Anti-Racism National Action Plan
Malta recently joined the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) as an observer country. Malta’s observer status in IHRA was endorsed by the Member Countries during the IHRA Plenary held in Glasgow, Scotland on 27th June 2024.
IHRA membership is an important element of Malta’s Anti Racism National Action Plan which aims to confront and dismantle systemic racism, ensuring that people of all ethnicities are treated with dignity and respect.
IHRA brings together governments and experts to strengthen, advance, and promote Holocaust education, research, and remembrance, and to combat growing Holocaust denial and antisemitism.
There are currently 35 IHRA member countries, including all European Union Member States, with Cyprus, like Malta, as an Observer country. There are seven other Observer countries.
When addressing the Plenary session in Glasgow, Dr. Vanni Xuereb, Malta’s Ambassador to Germany and Head of Delegation to IHRA, reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and combating the scourge of antisemitism and all other forms of racism.
IHRA membership underscores Malta’s dedication to ensuring that every person, regardless of ethnicity, is treated with dignity and respect.
