Welcome to the Embassy of Malta in Dublin.

Ireland’s capital Dublin is its oldest town and is located at the mouth of the River Liffey. The name Dublin originates from the Gaelic dubh linn or “blackpool”, where the Poddle stream met the River Liffey to form a deep pool at Dublin Castle. Founded by the Vikings, the city has been Ireland’s main city since medieval times. Today, it is an economic, administrative and cultural centre with one of the fastest growing populations in a European capital.

Dublin is a city of contrasts which is evident in the ancient and modern structures that co-exist side by side.

Many of Dublin’s traditional industries, such as food processing, textile manufacturing, brewing, and distilling have gradually declined, although Guinness has been brewed at the St. James’s Gate Brewery since 1759. Economic improvements in the 1990s have attracted a large number of global pharmaceutical, information and communications technology companies to the city and Greater Dublin Area. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, PayPal, Yahoo!, Facebook, Twitter and Pfizer now have European headquarters and/or operational bases in the city.
