On Wednesday 21 October 2020, Her Excellency Dr Theresa Cutajar, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to Turkey, presented her letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The ceremony took place at the White Palace in Ankara, the seat of the Turkish President.  Ambassador Cutajar was accompanied by Ms. Maria Buttigieg, First Secretary and Mr. Roberto Pace, Consul General of Malta in Istanbul.

Following the performance of the national anthems of Malta and Turkey by a military band and the inspection of a Guard of Honour, Ambassador Cutajar presented the Letters of Credence to H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. 

The cordial ceremony was followed by an exchange of views on the bilateral relations between Malta and Turkey, regional developments in Libya and in the Eastern Mediterranean as well as migration and Turkey’s relations with the European Union. The two sides also touched upon potential avenues of cooperation and how bilateral relations could be further strengthened and deepened.

President Erdoğan acknowledged the strong friendly relations that exist between Malta and Turkey and expressed his best wishes to Ambassador Cutajar on the assumption of her responsibilities in Turkey.

On Thursday 22nd October 2020, Ambassador Cutajar laid a flower wreath at the Anitkabir -Atatürk Mausoleum – dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the father of modern Turkey and the Turkish War for Independence.
