Malta’s Ambassador to Germany, Vanni Xuereb, paid an official visit to the Free State of Saxony on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, during which he held meetings with State authorities and business representatives in Dresden and in Leipzig.

In the state capital, Dresden, Ambassador Xuereb had a meeting with the Minister President of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer. They spoke about the political situation in Malta and Saxony respectively and discussed a number of important issues such as legal and illegal migration, Energy and the Digital Transformation. Minister President Kretschmer described Malta as being very ambitious in these areas with many possibilities for closer cooperation between Saxony and Malta.

During his visit to Saxony, the Maltese Ambassador visited the Julius Blüthner Pianofortefabrik GmbH in Leipzig. The Blüthner family oversees the production of high-standard pianofortes, thus continuing the founder’s legacy of building the finest pianos in the world. The company has been manufacturing these instruments in Leipzig since 1853.  Blüthner also exports to several countries in Europe, America and Asia such as the US, Great Britain and France.

In Leipzig, Ambassador Xuereb also had the opportunity to meet a number of prominent entrepreneurs, business persons and leading professionals at an event hosted at the International Club by Malta’s Honorary Consul in Saxony, Detlef Bischoff. Those present will form part of a delegation which will be embarking on a business trip to Malta in the coming weeks. In view of their upcoming visit, they were very eager to learn more about the Maltese Islands and Ambassador Xuereb spoke about the many opportunities Malta provides and about its uniqueness not only as a location where to do business but also as a place to visit and experience the very best in terms of culture, history and cuisine. Throughout his visit, Ambassador Xuereb was accompanied by Detlef Bischoff, Honorary Consul of Malta in the Free State of Saxony and Rose-Ann Buhagiar, Second Secretary and Consul at the Maltese Embassy in Berlin.
