On 23 October 2020, the Ambassador for Malta to the Hellenic Republic, His  Excellency Joseph Cuschieri presented his  credentials to the President of Greece, Her Excellency Katerina Sakellaropoulou in the presence of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs responsible of the Greek diaspora, Konstantinos Vlasis and the Secretary General of the Office of the Greek President, Vassilis Papadopoulos.

The presentation ceremony was followed by a meeting between the Greek President and Ambassador Cuschieri, where Her Excellency congratulated Mr. Cuschieri for his appointment.

Bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed during the meeting. Malta and Greece have established their diplomatic relations fifty-four years ago. 

Among the topics discussed were the migration, the situation in the Aegean Sea and the centre of the Mediterranean, as well as the impact of the Covid-19 on the economies.

Other topics which were discussed were the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in international fora especially within the EU framework and MED7. The common interest in the Mediterranean political scene was also discussed.

The discussion touched upon the need of more cooperation between the two countries in the possibility of strengthening areas of commerce, maritime, tourism and culture.
