Values, language, spiritual and civic traditions, family ties and behaviour patterns all nurture the sense of belonging to a particular national group. In a globalised world, and within the context of regional realities such as the European Union, national identity is naturally heightened and highlighted.
The Maltese national experience in retaining identity, even when ruled by the most powerful, has been tried and tested successfully. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will seek to promote this identity, to create a greater visibility of Malta’s rich and varied cultural, architectural and historical heritage.
