Welcome
to the website of the High Commission of Malta in Accra.
We will make every effort
through this website to provide you with practical and relevant information. We
hope that this website will serve as a window on Malta-Ghana relations as well
as a bridge of communication between the High Commission and you.
The High Commission of Malta in
Accra is committed to promoting friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation
between the people of Malta and the people of Ghana. Intensifying
relations with Ghana is also a priority for the Maltese government’s broader strategy
in West Africa and beyond.
Diplomatic relations between
Malta and Ghana go back to 1974. Since
the last couple of years however, relations have flourished with two
consecutive State Visits, one in 2017 and the other one in 2019, which were
followed by the official opening of the High Commission of Malta in Accra.
Malta views Ghana as a role
model of peace, democracy and stability in the region. Malta also understands
the importance of African regional integration in security and development and
supports initiatives taken by Ghana and other African partners in this direction.
The
importance of Ghana for Malta as a trade partner is also becoming increasingly
evident. Ghana’s vibrant and dynamic economy provides ample opportunities for
Maltese industries that are interested in venturing into the West African
market, most particularly in sectors like renewable energy, waste management,
ICT solutions, education and training services, manufacturing and
food-processing, agriculture and construction.
Ghana’s standing in Africa further increased after the country was selected
to host the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area which would
create a market of over 1.2 billion people once all African countries sign up.
A
priority task of the High Commission of Malta in Ghana is to foster mutually
beneficial commercial exchanges between the two countries. The High Commission supports the Ghana Beyond
Aid vision of the Government of Ghana and recognises the positive impact of private
sector investments and collaborations in key sectors, such as education, health
and environment, on the sustainable development and economic growth of the
country.
To
this effect, the High Commission provides regular advice to Maltese entrepreneurs
who are looking at doing business in Ghana and to Ghanaian entrepreneurs who
are interested in exploring new European markets.
It
is the objective of the High Commission to stimulate the exchange of
information and deepen cooperation between the two countries in all fields of
mutual interest.
