Between 1 and 2 December 2022, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign and
European Affairs and Trade, Mr. Christopher Cutajar, visited the capital city
of Cyprus, Nicosia, to hold political consultations with his Cypriot
Counterpart, Ambassador Kornelios Korneliou. Discussions were held on bilateral
issues and on ways to enhance the already positive relations between the two
countries.
Throughout the meeting, EU related issues and other regional matters
with a focus on the Mediterranean, were also discussed. As Malta and Cyprus
share similar characteristics and common challenges, ways to continue
cooperation were explored. Prior to the meeting, the
Permanent Secretary also held a brief exchange of views with the Cypriot Foreign
Minister, H.E. Ioannis Kasoulides.
Mr. Cutajar also met with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of
Energy, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Marios Panayides. During this meeting, ways
to increase trade between the two countries and the energy situation in Europe
were on the agenda.
