Pete Buttigieg welcomes Minister Ian Borg to the Department of Transport for an official meeting

“We will be working hand-in-hand to explore the possibility of better connectivity between the two countries.” This was stated by  Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg during a bilateral meeting he had with United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.

During this meeting, Minister Ian Borg spoke about the strong advancements that our country made in recent years, in particular when it comes to the Maritime Register, which today is the largest register in Europe and the sixth largest in the world, and the Maltese Aviation Registry. The minister for foreign affairs also spoke about the important role that our country plays in the International Maritime Organisation.

“Malta has always been a pioneer in the maritime sector and even now as we will serve on the United Nations Security Council, we will work again on this very important field. During this period, our country will be working on the impact of sea level rise on developing islands”, claimed Minister Borg.

From his end, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg noted the work done in recent years by the European Union regarding the legislation and implementation of environmental laws in favour of more sustainable transport. Minister Borg pointed out how in recent days the Fit for 55 Package was approved and gave an overview of Malta’s work in this regard.
