During the last hours, the Maltese Government, represented by Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg, had a bilateral meeting in Ankara with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

During this meeting, Minister Ian Borg thanked the Turkish Government for this official invitation in order to continue to improve and strengthen the bilateral relations between Malta and Turkey, in particular during this year, as we are celebrating the 55th anniversary since the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Minister Borg said that, during this meeting, the possibility of further collaboration and agreements in the education, maritime, sports, and research and innovation sectors, among others, continued to be discussed.

“Malta believes that Turkey has been and will remain an essential partner for the European Union. Our priorities continue to confirm the importance of joint action in the region,” said Minister Borg during a press conference with Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. The Minister for Foreign Affairs went on to say that the discussion also included the work in the Mediterranean region and even the situation in Libya.

Dr Ian Borg had the opportunity to explain in more detail to Minister Çavuşoğlu the priorities of our country at the United Nations Security Council as of next January. He claimed that Malta will be promoting a very clear principle of dialogue and peace. Finally, Malta thanked Turkey for its commitment a few months ago to fulfil the 'Black Sea Grain' agreement.
