On
Sunday, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg and
Minister for Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli had a number of
bilateral meetings in Libya.
The
ministers had very important meetings with Minister
for Foreign Affairs Najla El Mangoush, Minister for Oil and Gas Mohammed Oun
and Minister for the Environment Ibrahim Munir Al-Arabi. The ministers stated
that “through these discussions, we continue to see
together so that our peoples benefit from a better quality of life”.
“The
visit to Libya is a solid demonstration of the will to continue consolidating
and improving our relationship with Libya”, Minister Ian Borg outlined while addressing the
media after a meeting at the level of ministers of foreign affairs. He said that during the open discussion he had, a number
of important topics were discussed, including irregular immigration, the latest
developments in Tripoli, the need for democratic elections as soon as possible,
and Malta’s term on the United Nations Security Council.
Minister
Miriam Dalli said that the Maltese Government was committed to exploring
opportunities with Libya in the energy sector, particularly in renewables.
“Following
the cooperation agreement signed by the Maltese Government in September, today
we continued with talks on how to take forward this cooperation, which could
create an investment opportunity for both countries. Malta is committed to
continue investing in the diversification of its energy sources”, Minister Miriam Dalli said.
The
Maltese delegation concluded its commitments in Libya with a meeting with Prime
Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah and President Menfi, where they continued the
previous discussions they had and the need to strengthen both commercial and
political cooperation.
