In his capacity as President of the Executive Committee of the North-South Centre, H.E. Ambassador Lorenzo Vella, Permanent Representative of Malta to the Council of Europe, chaired the Bureau of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, held on 17th October 2022 in Lisbon (Portugal) which amongst other issues, also acted as the jury for the North-South Prize 2022.
The meeting was followed by a first-time visit of Ms Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe at the premises of the North-South Centre in Lisbon. The visit was an opportunity to discuss the important work this Centre carries out within the context of the Council of Europe.
H.E Ambassador Vella also had the opportunity to address the North-South Prize 2021 ceremony, held at the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic on 18th October 2022, which awarded the ‘Covax Mechansim’ and Ms Zarifa Ghafari, former Mayor of Maidan Shahr in Afghanistan, for their commitment to promoting North-South solidarity, namely in the field of public health and gender equality.
