Malta Independence Day Celebration in Washington DC

On Thursday 20th September 2018, the Embassy of Malta in Washington DC hosted a reception to mark the 54th anniversary of Independence at the Official Residence. The event was attended by members of the Maltese community in the DC/Virginia/Maryland area, members of Department of State, including Ambassador Sean Lawler, Chief of Protocol, and the diplomatic community.


While addressing the guests, Ambassador of Malta H.E. Keith Azzopardi highlighted the long-standing excellent relations between Malta and the United States, with the latter being one of the very first countries that Malta established relations with following Independence. Ambassador Azzopardi also made reference to the EU-US relations, stressing that the common values and principles shared by both sides, is what makes this alliance as strong as ever despite any differences on policies. He reiterated Malta’s resolute commitment to strengthen the relations with the USA, both bilaterally as well as a member of the EU bloc.
