On 17 September 2020, H.E. Simon
Pullicino presented his Letters of Credence as Ambassador of the Republic of
Malta to His Excellency Kaïs Saïed, President of the
Republic of Tunisia.
In a brief meeting after the ceremony,
President Saïed welcomed Ambassador Pullicino to Tunisia
and referred to the deep historical ties between the two countries and, in
particular, to the legacy of the Maltese community that lived in Tunisia in the
19th and early 20th century, which served to further
consolidate the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two
Peoples. Ambassador Pullicino noted the excellent relations between the
two countries which have been characterised by a number of high level exchanges
over the last years, while highlighting the shared aspirations for peace and
stability in the Mediterranean, including in neighbouring Libya.
Following the meeting, Ambassador
Pullicino inspected the Guard of Honour and assisted to the playing of
the national anthems.
Also present for the meeting were H.E.
Othman Jerandi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Expatriates of the
Republic of Tunisia and Ms Nadia Akacha, Chief of Cabinet at the Office of the
President. Ambassador Pullicino was accompanied by Mr Gabriel Camenzuli, Deputy
Head of Mission and Consul.
