Ambassador
Attard-Pirotta delivered the Keynote address at the 2023 International
Conference of Al-Qasemi Academic College on Monday 13th March 2023, at
the College’s main campus in Baqa Al-Arabiyya, in the North of Israel. The
conference brought together leading scientists, researchers, and research
scholars from Israel and beyond to present their different research subjects and
findings. The conference was set up in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry
of Regional Cooperation.
During her
address, Ambassador Cecilia Attard-Pirotta spoke on Malta’s recent election to
serve as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the
term 2023-2024 and explained how during its tenure, Malta was committed to actively
support the UN in its Climate Action Programme. In addition, Ambassador
Attard-Pirotta recalled how in 1988, Malta was the first country to formally
table the issue of climate change as a political agenda item during the 43rd
Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
A delegation
from the Al-Qasemi, led by Prof. Anwar Rayan, President of the College, has
just returned from a working visit in Malta, where possible avenues of
collaboration were discussed with representatives from the University of
Malta. The two Institutions, exchanged
views on a framework of cooperation in a number of disciplines, and through the
Erasmus programme.
