Maltese artists recently took part in the Fête
de la Musique Berlin following an initiative by the Embassy of Malta in Berlin.
The Fête de la Musique is
organised by Musicboard Berlin on behalf of the State of Berlin. It celebrates
music worldwide on June 21 – the beginning of summer and the longest day of the
year – and is open to anyone who wants to participate. All kinds of musicians –
young and old, amateur and professional, any musical orientation and genres –
take to the streets, squares and parks to share their music.
With the support of the Cultural Diplomacy
Fund of the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Alien Grace,
The New Victorians, and Alexandra Alden were selected to participate in the
festival.
Alien Grace is a band based in Berlin itself which
consists of artists originating from different countries. Dan Ganado is the
band’s guitarist. The band features a music blend of folk music with gospel, soul,
as well as a touch of rock. The New Victorians are a sister-duo act with
a keen interest in live sound-manipulation and original electronic music in
theatre. The duo was awarded Artist of the Year by the Arts Council Malta in
April 2019. Alexandra Alden began writing lyrics and poetry at the tender age
of 6, while she was living in Germany as a child. She is currently pursuing her
musical career in the Netherlands.
The three groups performed on June 21 at the
central location of Neptunbrunnen, just in front of the Main City-Hall of
Berlin. Alexandra Alden also performed during the opening ceremony on June 20 at
the Gemeinschaftshaus Gropiusstadt in Neukölln, Berlin.
The project aimed at highlighting
affinities between the artistic environment in Malta and Berlin as well as to
promote Maltese talent overseas.
