Ambassador André Spiteri Participates in SDGs Future City Yokohama

 On 19 April 2022, H.E. André Spiteri, Ambassador of Malta to Japan participated in a Diplomats’ Study Tour jointly organised by Yokohama City and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. 

The Study Tour, entitled ‘SDGs Future City Yokohama’, included participation on the part of several members of the foreign diplomat community stationed in Tokyo.

 

During the tour, the delegation visited several venues in Yokohama that are currently undertaking projects relating to the implementation of the SDGs, such as the Yokohama SDGs Design Center 

The delegation visited Minato Mirai Honcho Elementary School, which is currently focusing on SDGs in cooperation with the local business community. 


After a brief presentation by the headmaster of the school, the students presented their projects to the delegation. Ambassador Spiteri extended his appreciation toward the thematic presentations that were provided by the students and praised the work undertaken by the school to enhance awareness on the need to implement the SDGs.


The delegation had also the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Yokohama City, Mr. Yamanaka, at the newly opened Hotel Kahala. Ambassador Spiteri delivered a short address before lunch praising the various local initiatives towards the realization of the UN SDGs, whilst also looking forward for closer cooperation between the foreign community and Yokohama City.

 At the Yokohama SDGs Design Center, representatives from each company explained how the Yokohama Municipal FC Bus and Euglena Biofuel Bus work. After that, the city of Yokohama representative introduced the initiatives of the Center.​
