Malta and Saudi Arabia sign an Agreement on Cooperation in Maritime Transport

On 28th June 2016, the Hon. Mr. Joe Mizzi, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Malta and H.E. Mr. Sulaiman Al-Hamdan, the Minister of Transport of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, signed the Agreement in the Field of Maritime Transport during the signing ceremony that took place at the Ministry of Transport in Riyadh. The Hon. Mr. Joe Mizzi was on a two day visit to Saudi Arabia which was held on 27-28 June 2016, during which he had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Transport of Saudi Arabia and other officials.

The signing ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Transport of Saudi Arabia.

Malta and Saudi Arabia for the first time through this Agreement have the opportunity to cooperate in various aspects of the maritime transport sector which include, facilitating the traffic of the commercial vessels for cargo and passenger transport, pursue mutual exchange of expertise and information, develop contacts between shipping agencies, encourage studies and maritime training including the offer of scholarships for maritime staff, provide facilities for ship building and maintenance and that within the Maltese-Saudi Joint Commission experts from both sides continue to explore ways and means on improving the bilateral relations in the maritime field.

In June 2015, Ambassador Valentino held discussions with the former Minister of Transport H.E. Mr. Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Al-Muqbel, during which both sides exchanged views on developing bilateral relations with regard to the transport sector.
