Opening Hours
The Consulate is open from
Sunday to Thursday from 09:00hrs to 15:00hrs. The Embassy’s opening hours are Sunday to Thursday from 09:00hrs –
16:00hrs. During the Ramadan period, the Consulate is open from 09:00hrs –
14:00hrs.
It is advisable to always
call for an appointment. Please call on +971 2 444 8646 or e-mail
on maltaembassy.abudhabi@gov.mt to book an appointment, prior to visiting the
Embassy for the above services.
1. Passports
New Maltese passports are
biometric and issued by the Passport Office in Malta. Hence applicants must
submit their application in person at the Embassy where their biometric
data (photograph, fingerprints and signature) is captured electronically and
subsequently transmitted to the Passport Office in Malta for processing. Please
call on +971 2 444 8646 or email on maltaembassy.abudhabi@gov.mt for an appointment to submit a passport
application.

Important
Notes (Please read all the instructions on the
passport application)
1. Parents
submitting the application at the Embassy must present their passport
as well as the other parent’s passport together with the application of the
child or minor. In cases of child by one of the parents, both parents/legal
guardians are still required to sign the Passport Application Form. Other documents may be required on a
case-by-case basis (please speak to Consul prior to applying).
2. The
photos presented together with the application need to be endorsed (at the
back) by the same recommender of section 7 and 8 of the passport application
form.
3. If you are applying for a new passport due to a change in your surname through marriage please provide your marriage certificate and the birth certificate of your spouse together with your application. If you were married outside the UAE or Malta please provide legalised/apostilled copies of the required certificates.
4. First
time passport applications:
i. If you have applied for citizenship through
the Embassy of Malta, provide us with your certificate or letter of
citizenship;
ii. Present a valid form of identification (eg.
passport, Maltese ID card, driving license, etc) when submitting your
application form;
iii. Complete section 8 of the passport application
form and present a certified photograph;
iv. If you have not applied for citizenship through
the Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi, present your birth certificate and that of
your parents and their marriage together with your certificate of citizenship;*
v. If you are applying for a first time passport
for your child, provide the child’s birth certificate, your certificate of
marriage together with your birth certificate and that of your spouse.*
- Additional international and domestic courier fees are applicable.
2. Citizenship
If you are interested in acquiring Maltese citizenship, kindly refer to
Agenzija Komunita’ Malta’s website for eligibility and application guidelines. Citizenship can be acquired either by Birth, by Registration, by Naturalisation, by Dual/Multiple Citizenship and through Direct Investment. You may also find the updated citizenship fees at the end of the respective application form.
3. Visa Applications

4. Emergency Travel Documents
The Emergency Travel Document is a one-way travel document issued to
Maltese/EU nationals. When this service is required, applicant
must notify the Consul immediately on the Emergency Phone No. +971504683915 and
an urgent appointment will be made at the Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi.
Applicants are kindly requested to ensure that they bring with them the
required documentation as listed in the Checklist below:
• Filled-in Passport Form A, signed by a recommender
• Two passport photos (not older than 6
months and signed by a recommender)
• If the passport has been stolen or lost, a Police Report
testifying to this matter is mandatory.
• If the applicant has a previous expired Maltese passport,
it must be presented with the application as proof of identity.
*This service is
resorted to in case of emergency only.
5. Legalization of Documents / Signatures
The Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi authenticates
official stamps or seals issued by the Maltese Ministry for Foreign and
European Affairs, and by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International
Cooperation. For this service, please call +971

6. Certification
of True Copies of Documents
Documents are certified as true copies at the
Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi by appointment. For this service, please
call +971 2 444 8646 or email maltaembassy.abudhabi@gov.mt prior to sending documents to the Embassy. Kindly note that the original document must always
be provided, together with a photocopy, for the required attestation.
7. Witness of
Signature / Oaths / Affidavits
These services can be provided
by appointment at the Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi, or remotely via Skype and
courier. Appointments can be made via email on maltaembassy.abudhabi@gov.mt or via phone on 02 444 8648. The person/s whose
signatures will be witnessed will need to sign the pertinent document/s in the
presence of the Consul, either in person or virtually. In the case of a
physical visit to the Embassy, the documents need to be signed in the presence
of the Consul. In the case of a virtual meeting, the document needs to be
signed during said virtual meeting, with the act of signing clearly visible on
screen. The signatory must provide proof of ID which includes a signature on it
e.g. passport or ID card.
8. Birth
Registrations
Birth Registrations can be made by appointment at the Embassy of Malta in
Abu Dhabi, or via courier. Customers are kindly requested to ensure that they
provide the required documentation as listed in the Checklist below.
a)
Original birth certificate of the applicant
issued by the pertinent authority and attested by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of the issuing country. The birth certificate then needs to be attested
by the Embassy of the Republic of Malta in Abu Dhabi. The original birth
certificate will be retained by the Public Registry of Malta. (If the original birth certificate is in a
language other than English, it first needs to be officially translated into
English, and the official translation will need to be attested by the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of the UAE).
b)
Copies of the birth certificates of
both parents of the applicant. (If the original birth certificate is in a
language other than English, it first needs to be officially translated into
English, and the official translation will need to be attested by the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of the UAE).
c)
Copies of the passports of both parents
d)
Marriage certificate of the parents. (If
the original marriage certificate is in a language other than English, it first
needs to be officially translated into English, and the official translation
will need to be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE).
e)
Birth
Registration Form duly
filled in and signed.
9. Marriage
Registrations
Marriage Registrations can be made by appointment at the Embassy in Abu Dhabi,
or via courier. In the latter case, a declaration of spouses will need to be
taken via a virtual meeting with the Consul. Applicants are kindly requested to
ensure that they provide the required documentation as listed in the Checklist
below.
a) The original legalized
Act of Marriage authenticated by the competent authority of the issuing country
or a true copy of the original Act of Marriage authenticated by the competent
authority of the issuing country.
b) A Sworn Declaration of
the couple attesting the surname the wife chosen after marriage and affirming
that one of the parties is a Maltese citizen. This is taken in the form of an
Affidavit, either physically at the Embassy, or remotely.
c) Passport copies of both
spouses
d) If the marriage was
celebrated in a country where polygamous marriages are allowed, the groom needs
to provide a free status certificate dated prior to the marriage or a copy of
his family register, which should indicate that he has only one spouse.
e) In cases where the
surname selected after marriage by the couple is indicated on the Marriage
Certificate no action need be taken.
10. Divorce
Registrations
Divorce Registrations can
be made by appointment only at the Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi. Applicants
are kindly requested to provide the required documentation as listed in the
Checklist below.
a) Original
Divorce Decree duly legalized by the issuing country. If the divorce decree is
not in the English language, an officially legalized translation is required.
b) A
copy of current valid photo ID of the applicant, e.g. passport or ID card
11. Death
Registrations
Death Registrations can be
made by appointment at the Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi, or via courier.
Applicants are kindly requested to provide the required documentation as listed
in the Checklist below.
a)
Citizenship confirmation: The Public
Registry can accept either an informal letter of citizenship, or a certified
true copy of the certificate of Maltese citizenship
b)
Death Certificate: Original death
certificates need to be legalized by the local authorities. Death certificates
are accepted in the English language or in the international format. An
official translation is required if the birth certificate is not in the English
language. The official translation needs to be legalized by the local
authorities. Original certificates are retained by the Public Registry in
Malta. Names and surnames on certificates must be in full and not abbreviated.
c)
Copy of an Identification Document (ID,
Passport).
d)
Death Registration Form. This form is
provided by the Embassy and needs to be filled in and signed. It should be
filled in according to the original death certificate or to its relative
translation. No other details are to be added if they are not shown on the
certificate
12. Other
Consular Services
Marriage
a) Maltese citizens planning to marry in the
United Arab Emirates should contact the Emirati marriage registry where
they intend to marry. To register your marriage in Malta, please see
Section 9 above.
b) Foreign nationals who wish to marry in Malta should
contact the Malta marriage registry by email on pubreg.civilstatus@gov.mt or by telephone on: +356 2220 9200 or by mail on

Please
note that certificates are only sent outside Malta and Gozo by registered
mail. For courier service to the UAE, you need to personally make
alternative arrangements.

Maltese Citizens Registration
Maltese nationals residing in the United Arab
Emirates may wish to register themselves with the Embassy of Malta in Abu Dhabi
by filling Notification
Form D and emailing it to the
Embassy on maltaembassy.abudhabi@gov.mt. Registration with the Embassy is on a voluntary
basis and is free of charge.
Maltese citizens who wish to remove their personal
data from the Embassy register are to write to the Embassy on maltaembassy.abudhabi@gov.mt.
13. Consular
Emergencies
The Embassy is to be

death, incarceration, loss of passport etc, where the presence of an Embassy
official is deemed necessary.
