Independence Day of Malta celebrated in New Delhi

On Monday 26 September 2022, the High Commissioner of Malta to India in New Delhi, H.E. Reuben Gauci and his spouse, Dr Olga V Gauci hosted a large gathering of VIP guests in order to celebrate the 58th Anniversary of Malta's attainment of Independence on 21 September 1964. The reception took place at The Ambassador Hotel, Khan Market in New Delhi.


The event was also attended by the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Ivan Vassallo , Second Secretary and Consul ,Mr Daniel Massa along with Consular Attache, Capt Jesmond Brincat. The local Indian staff of the High Commission of Malta in New Delhi were also in attendance.


The Chief Guest for the event was the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, H.E. Meenakshi Lekhi. The event commenced with the online message by the Minister for Foreign, European and Trade Affairs, Hon Ian Borg .


During his speech, which was translated into Hindi by his spouse, High Commissioner Gauci said that Malta- India Diplomatic Relations go as early as the 10 of March 1965, when barely 6 months after Malta's attainment of Independence, India recognized Malta and established Diplomatic Relations with it.


The High Commissioner also spoke about the launching of the renowned Maltese beer CISK ( non-alcoholic version ) which began to be imported in India by Indian importer A & Z Export International, which Indian company is preparing to import other Maltese products in the vey near future.


On her part, Minister Lekhi affirmed that Malta and India relations are strong and spoke with fondness about her recent Official visit to Malta in August 2022, where she met the President of the Republic, H.E. George W Vella, the Minister for Foreign, European and Trade Affairs, Hon Ian Borg and the Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, Hon Owen Bonnici​
