On 11 July 2025, H.E. Prof. Lino Bianco, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to Bosnia and Herzegovina, attended on behalf of Hon. Dr Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, the ceremony for the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Srebrenica, where in July 1995, during the Bosnian War, more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys in and around the town of Srebrenica were killed.

The commemoration was held at the Memorial Center in Potočari and was attended by victims’ families and by a number of European Union dignitaries, including António Costa, President of the European Council, and Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, as well as Heads of State or Government, including Natasa Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia, Andrej Plenkovic, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, and Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo.

At the commemoration, Ambassador Bianco signed the Book of Condolences and entered the statement: “On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Malta, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica remembrance, I wish to honour the memory of the victims, stand in solidarity with the survivors, and reaffirm the collective commitment to truth, justice, and reconciliation. The legacy of Srebrenica is a profound reminder of the consequences of hatred and the importance of preserving human dignity and peace as confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly adoption of the resolution proclaiming July 11 as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration”.
